Old IT equipment is often worth more than companies expect. With IT asset recovery, WMG Waste eRecycling refurbishes and resells your usable laptops, desktops, servers, phones and networking gear, returns the proceeds to you and recycles everything that has no second-hand market. All data is wiped or destroyed first, and every device is tracked by serial number.
What makes used IT equipment worth recovering?
Business hardware is built to last longer than its first deployment. A laptop replaced after a few years, a server taken out during a migration or a switch left over after a network upgrade can still do useful work for another organization. Resale value depends on a handful of factors:
- the age and specification of the device
- its physical condition and whether it powers on
- the quantity of identical models in the batch
- whether chargers, rails or other accessories are included
- whether activation locks and management profiles are removed
Our article on the hidden value of old IT equipment goes into more detail.
How does the recovery process work at WMG?
1. Inventory and quote
Share a list or a rough description of the equipment. We reply within 24 hours.
2. Collection and logging
We collect the equipment, hand over an itemized receipt and log each device by serial number. From that point every item is tracked until final processing.
3. Data sanitization
Devices are wiped using NIST 800-88 compliant methods so they stay reusable. Drives that cannot be wiped are physically destroyed. The erasure step is explained on our data erasure page.
4. Refurbishment and resale
Usable devices are refurbished and resold. The proceeds are returned to you.
5. Recycling of the remainder
Anything without resale value goes to WEEELABEX certified recycling, where we recover up to 95% of materials.
What do you get back?
Money from the equipment that sold, and a full paper trail for the whole batch: the collection receipt, a certificate of data destruction for every device and a recycling report for the items that were recycled. That supports both GDPR and WEEE compliance audits.
Is recovery better for the environment?
Yes. Reusing a working device avoids the raw materials and energy needed to build a new one. Recycling only what cannot be reused is also how we work towards our zero landfill goal, with environmental management that follows ISO 14001.
