Washing Machine / Appliance Recycling

Washing machines, dryers, dishwashers and other large household appliances are mostly steel, with motors, copper wiring and electronics inside. WMG Waste eRecycling provides appliance recycling for businesses and households: we collect the machines and send them to WEEELABEX certified recycling, where the metals and other materials are separated and put back into use.

Who typically needs appliance recycling?

Anyone replacing several machines at once. Think of housing providers renovating apartments, landlords refitting kitchens, facility managers upgrading staff canteens, laundries replacing washers and dryers, and contractors left with old appliances after an installation job. Individual households can use the service too, although a small fee may apply for residential pickups or very small quantities.

Why not take an old washing machine to the scrap dealer?

A washing machine is more than scrap metal. It contains a motor, a pump, printed circuit boards, cables and plastic parts, and many models have a concrete counterweight to keep the drum steady. Under the EU WEEE Directive these appliances count as electrical equipment and must be processed by a qualified recycler, so that hazardous components are removed and the materials are recovered properly. Sending them through informal channels makes it hard to show that your organization met those rules.

What does WMG do with collected appliances?

  • You request a quote with the number and type of appliances. We reply within 24 hours.
  • We collect them. Standard pickups are scheduled within 3 to 5 business days, urgent ones within 24 to 48 hours depending on location.
  • You receive an itemized receipt, and each item is tracked from collection to final processing.
  • The appliances go to WEEELABEX certified recycling. Steel, copper, aluminium and plastics are separated, and we recover up to 95% of materials in line with our zero landfill goal.
  • After processing you get a recycling report for your WEEE records.

Fridges and freezers follow a separate treatment route because of their refrigerants and insulating foam. See our page on refrigerator disposal for how those are handled, or the overview on white goods recycling if you have a mixed load.

How do you prepare appliances for pickup?

Disconnect the machines from power and water, drain washing machines and dishwashers as far as possible, and make sure doors are closed or secured. Place them somewhere accessible for loading, such as a ground floor, loading bay or car park.
