Buyback of servers gives decommissioned server room and data center hardware a second use. WMG Waste eRecycling values your rack and tower servers and the networking equipment around them, wipes or destroys every disk with a certificate, resells what the refurbished market wants and returns the proceeds to you. Hardware without resale value is recycled in the same collection.
What drives the value of a used server?
Servers are valued on their configuration as much as on the chassis. The main factors:
- Type and model: rack, tower or blade, and which brand and generation
- Configuration: processors, amount of memory, drive bays, network cards and power supplies
- Age: newer generations that still get firmware updates are easier to place
- Condition and completeness: missing drive caddies, rails or power supplies reduce value
- Quantity: matching units from one deployment are more interesting to buyers than single machines
- Demand: the refurbished server market shifts with what companies are building and replacing
What should a server list include?
A rough inventory is enough to start. For each model, note the make and model number, form factor, CPU and memory if known, number of disks, how many units you have and their general state. Add switches, firewalls and other networking gear from the same room, since these can often go in the same collection.
Tell us about access as well: which floor, whether there is a loading dock and whether the racks need to be taken apart. Standard pickups happen within 3 to 5 business days, and urgent decommissions within 24 to 48 hours depending on location.
What happens to the disks before a server is resold?
Every disk is wiped with NIST 800-88 compliant methods or physically destroyed before the server is resold. Disks that fail erasure are shredded or crushed. You receive a certificate of data destruction for each device, logged by serial number. If your policy does not allow disks to leave the building intact, we can do this through on-site data destruction before anything is loaded.
Servers that are too old, faulty or incomplete to resell go through WEEELABEX certified recycling in the same pickup, where we recover up to 95% of materials. See server recycling for how that part works. Businesses in Belgium and Germany can use this service too, with collection arranged per quote.
