On-site data destruction keeps your data inside your building until it no longer exists. With this service from WMG Waste eRecycling, our team wipes drives with NIST 800-88 compliant methods or physically destroys them at your premises, so no readable storage leaves your location. Every device is logged by serial number and covered by a certificate of data destruction.
When should you choose on-site over off-site destruction?
Off-site destruction is secure: every item is tracked from collection to final processing. Still, some organizations need more than that. On-site work tends to make sense when:
- your security policy says data carriers may not leave the premises intact
- you hold health, financial or legal records about clients or patients
- a contract with one of your own customers asks for witnessed destruction
- your IT or security staff want to see the work happen with their own eyes
- you are closing an office or server room and want everything settled in one visit
If none of these apply, off-site processing is usually the simpler route, and the certificate you receive is the same.
What happens during an on-site visit?
We agree the scope in advance: how many devices, which ones should be wiped so they can be reused, and which drives must be destroyed regardless. On the day, each device is logged by serial number before anything is done to it. Drives meant for reuse go through secure hard drive erasure. Drives that fail erasure, or that you want gone for good, are shredded or crushed.
Once the storage is dealt with, the hardware is no longer a data risk. We collect it for the next step: usable devices are refurbished and resold with the proceeds returned to you, and the rest goes through WEEELABEX certified recycling, where we recover up to 95% of materials.
What paperwork do you get afterwards?
You receive an itemized receipt of what we collected, a certificate of data destruction for every device listing its serial number, and a recycling report once the hardware has been processed. These documents support GDPR accountability and WEEE compliance audits. See certified data destruction for what the certificate shows and why auditors ask for it.
