Data Carrier Destruction

Data carrier destruction lets you hand over every storage medium you have in a single batch: hard drives, SSDs, phones, tablets, USB sticks, tapes, memory cards and discs. WMG Waste eRecycling logs each item, applies the right method to each type of media, and gives you a certificate of data destruction plus one set of documents for the whole lot.

Why send all your data carriers in one batch?

Most organizations do not retire storage neatly. A storeroom clear-out turns up loose drives next to old phones, a box of backup tapes and a drawer of USB sticks. Handling each type separately means several pickups, several sets of paperwork and more chances for something to slip through.

With one batch you get one pickup, one itemized receipt and one set of certificates. That is much easier to file for a GDPR audit, and it closes the loop on an office move, a lease ending or a records retention review in one go.

How is mixed media processed?

Every item is logged and tracked from collection to final processing. From there, the method depends on the medium and on what you want:

  • Drives with reuse value can be wiped with NIST 800-88 compliant methods, then refurbished and resold, with the proceeds returned to you
  • Faulty drives, and SSDs that will not be reused, are shredded or crushed
  • Phones and tablets are wiped or have their storage destroyed, as described under phone data destruction
  • Small media such as USB sticks, tapes, cards and discs are destroyed physically, see USB & tape destruction

What remains goes through WEEELABEX certified recycling, where we recover up to 95% of materials.

What should you prepare before we collect?

You do not need a perfect inventory. A rough picture is enough for us to plan the collection and quote it:

  • an approximate count per type: drives, phones, tapes, small media
  • any items that must be destroyed regardless of their value
  • whether anything may not leave your building before it is sanitized
  • where the media is stored and how our team can reach it

Keep everything together in a locked room or container until pickup. Standard pickups take place within 3 to 5 business days, and urgent collections within 24 to 48 hours depending on location. Our pickup and logistics page explains how collection works.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about how we destroy data and how we document it.

We use NIST 800-88 compliant software wiping when a device will be reused, and physical shredding or crushing when it will not. Both are documented per device.

Yes. With on-site data destruction, devices are wiped or destroyed before they leave your building. Off-site destruction at our facility is also available.

Yes. You receive a certificate of data destruction for every device, listing its serial number and the method used. Keep it with your GDPR records as evidence for auditors.

Our wiping follows NIST 800-88 guidelines, our recycling is WEEELABEX certified, and our documentation is set up to support GDPR accountability.

Yes. A device wiped to NIST 800-88 can be safely refurbished and resold, which recovers value and keeps it out of the waste stream.
