After a phone refresh, the old devices are often still in good shape. Buyback of phones from WMG Waste eRecycling lets you sell a fleet of company smartphones and tablets once the data has been dealt with. We value the devices, wipe them or destroy their storage with a certificate, resell what the refurbished market wants and return the proceeds to you.
What determines what a company phone is worth?
- Type and model: brand, model and storage capacity set the starting point
- Age: phones that still receive software updates are much easier to resell
- Condition: cracked screens, dented housings and worn batteries lower the value
- Account and network locks: a phone still tied to an Apple or Google account, or restricted to one network, is hard or impossible to resell
- Quantity: a batch of the same model is more attractive to refurbished buyers
- Demand: interest in refurbished phones shifts as new models are released
How do you get a valuation for your phone fleet?
Your mobile device management system can usually export what we need. Send a rough list with brand and model, storage size, how many of each, and a quick condition split, such as working, damaged or not switching on. Tablets can go on the same list. We reply to quote requests within 24 hours.
Before handover, sign the devices out of company and personal accounts and release them from device management. A phone that is still account-locked cannot be reused, so it will be recycled instead of resold.
How is the data on each phone handled?
Every phone and tablet is wiped with NIST 800-88 compliant methods or has its storage physically destroyed before resale. A factory reset done by the user is not treated as sufficient. You get a certificate of data destruction for every device, logged by serial number. Phone data destruction explains why a reset alone is not documented sanitization.
What happens to phones that cannot be resold?
Broken, outdated or locked devices are recycled in the same collection. Together with their batteries, they go through WEEELABEX certified recycling, where we recover up to 95% of materials, including metals from the circuit boards. See phone recycling for more.
